Pelvic Exenteration

Pelvic exenteration is a major surgical procedure used to treat advanced cancers of the pelvic region. There are several types of pelvic exenteration, each tailored to the extent of cancer. Posterior pelvic exenteration involves removing the rectum, anus, and surrounding tissues, typically in cases of rectal or vaginal cancer. Total pelvic exenteration is the most extensive form, where the entire pelvic cavity is cleared, including removal of the bladder, rectum, and reproductive organs, often used for advanced cervical or endometrial cancers. Anterior pelvic exenteration focuses on removing the bladder, reproductive organs, and nearby tissues in cases of urinary or gynecological cancers.
